UP SLIS is honoured to be host of the 2025 International Forum on Data, Information, and Knowledge for Sustainable and Ethical Societies (IFDIK 2025)!
As societies face the challenges brought about by the assimilation of the physical, digital, and biological worlds made possible by the advancements in artificial intelligence and similar innovations, there rises a need to build sustainable and ethical communities that will address them. Sustainability is meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future. It takes into account environmental, social, and economic factors in decision-making processes to ensure that resources are used responsibly and equitably. Ethical societies, on the other hand, prioritize values such as fairness, justice, and respect for all individuals. Such societies ensure that basic human rights are upheld, while promoting diversity and inclusion, and holding individuals and organizations accountable for their actions.
As such, library and information science educators, researches, practitioners, and students should focus on how to use data, information, and knowledge to help build sustainable and ethical societies. This is what IFDIK 2025 is all about. It provides an excellent venue for various scholars, practitioners, and students to gather, discuss, and collaborate on how they practice or advance these initiatives.
IFDIK 2025 is the umbrella conference for the three co-located important international conferences, namely:
1. The 27th International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL 2025)
2. The 12th Asia-Pacific Conference on Library Information Education and Practice (A-LIEP 2025)
3. Asia-Pacific iConference 2025 (the annual meeting of Asia-Pacific chapter of iSchools, or the AP iSchools)
The International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL), which started in Hong Kong in 1998 and over the years traveled many countries in the Asia-Pacific region, is a major digital library conference. Along with JCDL (ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries) and TPDL (International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries), ICADL is held annually as one of the three top venues for connecting digital library, computer science, and library and information science communities.

The Asia-Pacific Library and Information, Education and Practice (A-LIEP) conference is a biennial international conference held within the Asia-Pacific Region. The conference aims to bring together LIS Educators, practitioners, and researchers to discuss, discover, and determine the unique flavour of LIS in the Asia-Pacific Region. The conference started in 2006 and continues to be a venue for sharing and collaborating within the LIS field
AP-iSchools is a regional group of the iSchools organization, which covers many top information schools in the Asia-Pacific region. The AP-iConference started in 2014 as an annual event for AP iSchools, but in 2020 it was re-defined as an open place for all next-generation information researchers in the Asia Pacific region. The conference is mainly organized by the iSchools Asia-Pacific Next Generation Committee (AP-iNext), which consists of promising next generation researchers from AP-iSchools, ICADL and A-LIEP communities. It intends to give a good opportunity for all next generation researchers to build their network that will help foster their research activities.
IFDIK 2025 will be held on 3-5 December 2025 in Metro Manila. Keep an eye out for the call for papers for the conferences!
