As part of its commitment to enhancing the capacities of LIS professionals, the University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS) partnered with the Quezon City Public Library (QCPL) in a digital archiving seminar to strengthen efforts in preserving Quezon City’s history and culture. "Digital Images of Belonging: A Seminar on the Fundamentals of Digital Archiving," held last 03 March 2025 at the QCPL Conference Room, brought together QCPL staff from various sections and satellite offices including members of the Quezon City Photographers Guild (QCPG).

Organized by the QCPL as part of Women’s Month, the seminar is part of a broader initiative to develop a digital archive that highlights local history, culture, and the contributions of women and LGBTQIA+ individuals in Quezon City. Asst. Prof. Benedict S. Olgado, Ph.D., served as the resource speaker for the seminar. Asst. Prof. Olgado discussed best practices around digital preservation of photographs in addition to ethical, legal, and community engagement considerations. Asst. Prof. Olgado chairs both the Extensions Services Committee and Gender and Development Committee of UPSLIS. The seminar aligns with UP SLIS’s extension agenda, particularly its mission to support the development of archives, libraries, and information centers, as well as enhance the capacities of LIS professionals.

Beyond this seminar, Prof. Olgado will continue supporting QCPL in the establishment and sustainability of their digital preservation initiative, ensuring that historically and culturally significant materials remain accessible to the public. This collaboration reinforces the shared commitment of UP SLIS and QCPL to empowering information professionals and preserving community histories through sound and innovative archival practices.
