The University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS) proudly celebrated a historic milestone with the successful conduct of its first-ever NSTP Graduation Ceremony held at UP SOLAIR, Room 10. The event recognized the achievements of students who successfully completed the National Service Training Program (NSTP) under the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS).
The graduates were from the CWTS classes of Assistant Professor Dridge Paul A. Reyes and Assistant Professor Maria Maura S. Tinao, whose guidance and commitment helped prepare the students for meaningful community engagement and responsible citizenship.
The ceremony formally opened with a warm welcome and inspirational message from Dr. Rhea Rowena U. Apolinario, Dean of UP SLIS. In her address, Dean Apolinario congratulated the graduates for their dedication and encouraged them to continue embodying the values of service, leadership, and social responsibility beyond the classroom. She reminded the graduates that completing the NSTP is not only an academic milestone but also a commitment to serving communities and contributing to nation-building.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the Awarding of Certificates and NSTP Pins, led by Ms. Amy Tomie of the NSTP staff, Dean Rhea Rowena U. Apolinario, and Assistant Professor Maria Maura S. Tinao. Each graduate received a certificate recognizing the successful completion of the program and an NSTP pin signifying their accomplishment.
The NSRC Pinning Ceremony followed, symbolizing the graduates' successful completion of the NSTP and their membership in the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC). In a meaningful gesture of camaraderie, graduates pinned the NSRC pin on their classmates or seatmates, reflecting the friendships, teamwork, and shared experiences they built throughout their NSTP journey.
The ceremony also featured the Oath-Taking of the New SLIS NSRC Members, where the graduates formally pledged their commitment as reservists to uphold the ideals of volunteerism, civic responsibility, and public service. This solemn moment marked the beginning of their role as members of the National Service Reserve Corps, ready to respond and contribute whenever their service is needed.
To conclude the program, Assistant Professor Dan Anthony Dorado, NSTP Coordinator, delivered the closing message. He congratulated the graduates on reaching this important milestone and encouraged them to carry forward the values they learned through NSTP. He reminded the new reservists that genuine public service begins with compassion, responsibility, and a willingness to help others, emphasizing that the spirit of NSTP should continue long after graduation.
The first UP SLIS NSTP Graduation marks a significant chapter in the School's commitment to developing socially responsible and service-oriented information professionals.
