Recent graduates of the UP School of Library and Information Studies presented a paper at the IFLA Joint Satellite Conference: Reference and Information Services and Information Technology Sections (RISS/IT), held at the University of Warsaw Library in the capital city of Warsaw, Poland last 16-17 August 2017.
BLIS 2017 graduates Patricia C. Espina, Rima Paulyn E. Talag, and Lutgarda N. Villegas with UP SLIS Prof. Sonia M. Pascua presented the paper entitled "Words in Vision: A Filipino Sign Language Thesaurus Management System Using an Open Source Application Ren-py."
A collaborative work led by Prof. Pascua, the paper aims to develop a Filipino sign language thesaurus for deaf and mute students using an interactive application that will facilitate communication through sign language. Lederma A. de Guzman of Amang Rodriguez Elementary School in Malabon City also contributed her sign language expertise to the paper.
The two-day Joint Satellite Conference, with the theme Innovation and the User Experience: Evaluating and Implementing Discovery Systems', is one of the satellite programs of the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2017 in Poland.
