UP SLIS is pleased to announce the publication of a book chapter on LIS Education and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) written by two of our faculty members.
Asst. Prof. Kathleen Lourdes Obille and Asst. Prof. Elijah John Dar Juan contributed “Integrating Education for Sustainable Development into Philippine Library and Information Science Education,” as Chapter 18 of the book Libraries Driving Education for Sustainable Development, edited by Petra Hauke, Antonia Mocatta, and Priscilla Nga Ian Pun.
A portion of the chapter’s abstract reads, “The adoption of the UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for 2030 Roadmap (UNESCO 2020) aims to fulfil the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality education (UNESCO n.d.b), in all education systems globally. This chapter presents how higher education plays a vital role in the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how Philippine Library and Information Science (LIS) education aligns with the ESD framework (UNESCO n.d.a) in its curriculum, pedagogy, research, and community extension.”
The book is no. 186 of the IFLA Publications, a series by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, the leading and highly recognized international organization advocating for the interests of institutions and users of library and information services.
The book is published by De Gruyter Saur for free via open access on De Gruyter Brill at https://doi.org/10.1515/9783111336466
