Dr. Olgado Delivers Presentation on Decision Support by Design

On July 12, Dr. Benedict “Bono” Olgado, UP SLIS assistant professor and Director of the Publics, Archives, and Data Lab (PANDA Lab), participated in the forum "Electronic Health Records and Beyond" organized by the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS) Program for Health Systems Development.

The event brought together healthcare professionals, policy experts, scholars, and technologists to discuss the present and future of electronic health records (EHR) in the Philippines. Dr. Olgado delivered a presentation titled "Decision Support by Design," which focused on how clinical decision support systems (CDSS) can be more effective when designed with human-computer interaction principles, usability, and clinician trust in mind.

Drawing on both global research and local realities, he emphasized that clinical decision support is not just a technical tool but a relationship that must be thoughtfully integrated into system design and everyday practice. He offered practical considerations for embedding local guidelines and resources like UpToDate into primary care EMRs, with attention to timing, transparency, and workflow fit.
