UPSLIS proudly congratulates Associate Professor Dr. Benedict “Bono” Salazar Olgado on being awarded the Metro Manila Commission Professorial Chair!
Dr. Olgado’s work sits at the intersection of information science, social informatics, human-computer interaction, and science and technology studies; with a long-standing focus on how information systems and sociotechnical infrastructures shape public life. As chair holder, he will pursue research and extension projects on the quiet radicalism of information systems as civic infrastructure in Metro Manila, examining how public information systems—from libraries and archives to digital identity and electronic health record systems—make public life possible through access, care, dignity, and accountability, while also attending to the exclusions, inequalities, and forms of power they can reproduce. Working with colleagues and stakeholders, his work will also take up infrastructural inversion by making visible the hidden labor, relations, and supporting arrangements that enable these systems to function but often go unnoticed until moments of breakdown or failure. From there, the project seeks to advocate for greater support for these public infrastructures while also informing more grounded policy conversations and more accountable design interventions.
