UPSLIS proudly congratulates our Dean, Rhea Rowena Ubana-Apolinario, on completing her Doctor of Philosophy in Information Management at the Faculty of Information Science, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Malaysia.
Her dissertation titled, “Filipino Librarians and Social Change: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis,” explores Filipino librarians' subjective understanding and lived experiences of social change within their professional and community contexts; examines the strategies and practices through which Filipino librarians respond to, initiate, or influence social change in their institutions and communities; and uncovers their motivations, values, and intentions in their engagement with their advocacies, programs, and activities.
Dr. Apolinario reached this milestone while serving as Dean of SLIS, balancing a number of responsibilities with unwavering dedication. Her journey reflects the highest standards of perseverance, leadership, and academic excellence.
This accomplishment is especially significant as it marks the first time in over twenty years that our college has been led by a dean holding a Ph.D. Her commitment to advancing her education while supporting faculty, staff, and students exemplifies the values we strive to uphold as an institution of higher learning. This achievement is not only both personal and professional, but also sets an example of lifelong learning and leadership through scholarship. Congratulations, Dr. Apolinario!
