Asst. Prof. Bono Olgado presents ongoing work on data, memory, and transitional justice at various conferences 


Asst. Prof. Bono Olgado continues his interdisciplinary research on the datafication of memory politics in transitional justice mechanisms. He recently presented his ongoing work at two conferences.

In addition, Asst. Prof. Olgado facilitated a three-day workshop on rapid response documentation. The workshop, organized by HURIDOCS, brought together human rights documentalists across South and Southeast Asia. Held in Bali, Indonesia last August, the workshop highlighted the power of collective work for the documentation of human rights violations during emergent crises. The workshop is based on Olgados research and engagements through HURIDOCS.



Asst. Prof. Jonathan Isip facilitate series of digital preservation and records management workshops



Asst. Prof. Jonathan Isip facilitated a series of workshops on different aspects of digital preservation and records management to stakeholders from various disciplines and organisations. Last 14 July 2023, they gave a talk on Records Management in Context: Data Protection and Freedom of Information to school registrars as a parallel session at the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) NCR 2023 General Assembly at the University of Santo Tomas.

In July 20, July 28, and August 10-11 respectively, Asst. Prof. Isip conducted three workshops to that enabled goverment and private sector institutions to audit and assess the state of their digital preservation and records management practices, culminating in the development of strategic plans and the design of a preservation infrastructure compatible with the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) standard. These workshops were organised by Library-Bayanihan Inc. in partnership with UP SLIS.

Assoc. Prof. Iyra Buenrostro-Cabbab served as a reactor at the launching of the CCP Arthouse Cinema Catalogue last 11 August 2023 held at the Philippine International Convention Center. She gave some archival perspective on film programming and access to film archives, and a response to the publication by Asst. Prof. Adjani Arumpac and Mr. Adrian Mendizabal of the UP Film Institute.

Assoc. Prof. Iyra Buenrostro-Cabbab and Asst. Prof. Jonathan Isip bring digital preservation workshops to the Visayas region


Assoc. Prof. Iyra Buenrostro-Cabbab and Asst. Prof. Jonathan Isip facilitated a workshop on digital preservation audit and assessment with a particular focus on planning and policy making at the West Visayas State University in Iloilo City on 16-18 August 2023. This three-day workshop enabled administrators in the Visayas to develop policies to support digital preservation in their respective institutions. This workshop was organised by UP SLIS and Library-Bayanihan, Inc. in partnership with West Visayas State University through the leadership of Asst. Prof. Kathleen Lourdes B. Obille and Mr. Stephen Alayon., and the assistance of Asst. Prof. Johann Frederick Cabbab, SLIS extension coordinator Mr. James Kevin de Jesus, and SLIS library staff Mr. Michael Amandy.

UPSLIS worked with Alun-Alun Dance Circle to Establish a Digital Preservation Program


Asst. Prof. Paul Jason V. Perez, and BLIS students Aldrin Ken Ong and Lawrenz Christ Beloro, recently completed a project for the Alun-Alun Dance Circle, Inc. (ADC) in August 2023. They worked as consultants to develop a Digital Preservation program for the digitized AV materials of ADC that documents the Pangalay dance style in the Philippines, along with other organization activities. The project was funded by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts.

Asst. Prof. Johann Frederick A. Cabbab becomes an editor for ALA IRRTs International Leads


Asst. Prof. Johann Frederick A. Cabbab is now one of the editors of the International Leads (IL), the official publication of the American Library Association (ALA) International Relations Round Table (IRRT). The purpose of IL is to disseminate information about international librarianship and the activities of the Round Table. IL is published quarterly, edited by a member volunteer and printed through the production facilities of the American Library Association's Publishing Services Department.
