Application for Full-time Faculty Positions

<p>The <strong>University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS)</strong> invites applications for full-time faculty positions to begin August 1, 2017 (First Semester, 2017-2018). The positions are expected to be filled initially at the rank of <strong>non-tenure-track Assistant Professor</strong>. Ranking and consequent salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience following provisions in the UP Dilimans Faculty Manual. The positions are subject to final available items, slots, and administrative approvals.  <br /> The successful candidates will be expected to maintain an active record of teaching, advising, research, and extension service in the field of Library and Information Studies with possible administrative responsibilities in line with running the School.  Applicants in the following subjects areas are currently needed:</p>

<ul>

<li><strong>Library Science</strong>, with specializations in cataloguing and reference equipped with extensive knowledge in RDA, indexing, metadata, and information service.</li>

</ul>

<ul>

<li><strong>Archives and Records Management</strong>, with extensive knowledge in collection management, conservation, and archival research and access. Medium specializations, such as digital preservation and audiovisual preservation, a plus.</li>

</ul>

<p>Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the Bachelor of Library and Information Studies program with possible teaching units in the Master of Library and Information Studies program. This position offers the opportunity and requires the candidates to engage in innovative research and socially relevant extension services.</p>

<p>Applicants must:</p>

<ul>

<li>hold at least a Masters degree in the field of library and information studies, archives and records management, or in any relevant disciplines. Individuals with a different graduate degree but with a related undergraduate degree may apply. Individuals expecting to receive their graduate degree prior to August 1, 2017 may apply.</li>

<li>demonstrate excellence in research and scholarly activity and/or extensive professional experience</li>

<li>demonstrate excellent teaching potential and a commitment to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels</li>

<li>espouse the virtues of the University and of the School towards community service and nation building</li>

</ul>

<p>The closing date for all applications is <strong>February 24, 2017. </strong>Application materials must include: <br /> -a cover letter stating the candidates qualifications for the position and projected research agenda; <br /> -a current curriculum vitae; <br /> -two (2) recommendation letters: (1) academic and (1) professional   <br /> Applicants who have prior teaching experience may also include: <br /> -a teaching portfolio of no more than 5 pages, including a statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness. </p>
