Are you in Visayas and want to attend our digital preservation workshops but cannot travel to Metro Manila? Worry not, we are bringing them to you!
The University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS) and Library-Bayanihan, Inc. (Libraryanihan), in partnership with West Visayas State University (WVSU), present Have a Byte: A Taster Workshop on Digital Preservation.
The workshop will be held at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) in Iloilo City on 16-18 August 2023.
This workshop is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and insights necessary to audit current records management and digital preservation practices with a view to developing policies for a safe and stable infrastructure that supports the long-term preservation and accessibility of digital information using recommended practices.
By the end of the program, participants should be able to:
1) Understand the relationship between records management and digital preservation and its benefits to the organisation.
2) Develop skills to assess their organisation's current records management practices using the WBG Records Management Roadmap.
3) Develop skills to conduct a digital preservation audit using an array of assessment toolkits.
4) Identify areas for development and develop a strategic action plan.
5) Create user-centric and access-orientated policies for digital preservation.
This workshop is equivalent to the Digital Preservation Audit and Assessment workshop on July 20 plus the Records Management Planning and Assessment workshop on July 28. This does not include OAIS design but includes additional modules on advocating to management and policy development.
The workshop is intended for members of staff and officers who deal with the administration and management of records. We also invite officials who will supervise or who wish to initiate records management and digital preservation programs in their organisation. We encourage managerial-level participants who possess an understanding of the use of records across the institution as a whole. Information professionals are also welcome to join the workshop and may earn 21 points for continuing professional development.
