UP SLIS Hosts Two-Day Workshop On Disaster Risk Management for Documentary Heritage

UP SLIS was delighted to host a Two-day Trainer's Training on Disaster Risk Management for Documentary Heritage and Digital Archives supported by UNESCO.

This training equipped 22 participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao with the skills necessary to develop Disaster Risk Management (DRM) plans and subsequently train colleagues in their region to do the same.

The workshop utilised the Building Resilience: Disaster Risk Management for Documentary Heritage and Digital Archives training toolkit developed by UNESCO. The workshop activities were facilitated by experts from Asia and Australasia along local trainers from UP SLIS.

Dr. Dowon Kim from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and UNESCO Co-Chair Holder Professor, Institute of Disaster Mitigation for Urban Cultural Heritage (R-DMUCH), Ritsumeikan University, Japan led participants through the Disaster Imagination Game (DIG) Training Tool for Disaster Preparedness and its use in identifying key risks.

Dr. Heather Brown of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) discussed the importance of integrating physical and digital collections in DRM plans.

The workshop concluded with parting remarks from Ms. Sali Sasaki, Project Coordinator, Communication and Information Unit of UNESCO for the participants to spread the knowledge they have gained in the training.
